Automation connects and streamlines the tools you already have; a custom system is new software we build when no off-the-shelf tool fits how you actually work. A rough rule: if the problem is "my tools don't talk to each other," that's automation; if it's "there's no tool that does this the way we need," that's a custom system. Many projects use both — a bespoke tool with automations running inside it. We'll always recommend the lighter option first, and only build custom when it genuinely earns its place.

We can host and maintain the system for you if you'd rather not think about it, or hand the codebase over to you or your own developers whenever you like. Because we build on standard, modern foundations rather than proprietary black boxes, any competent developer can pick it up later. Your software is your asset, and we treat it that way.
